Manual for new supporters

Based on your location you may find existing local groups you can join or, if there aren't any in your area, you may start a new support group yourself.

1. There are several established support groups in different areas of the world functioning across different social media platforms. Feel free to join any of them to stay updated about local events, projects and activities.

2. If you wish to participate more actively, feel free to post publicly in the group or contact group’s admins with a brief introduction and a list of your skills and talents. Be patient - group’s administrators are just regular people doing this voluntarily in their free time.

3. If you don’t use any social media platforms please email supporters@dontextraditeassange.com and we will provide you contact of your existing local support group administrator(s) who can keep you up to date with upcoming actions and projects in your area.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Free Assange Nederland started out in October 2019 and currently has a core team of 3 people. Judging by our last two demonstrations, we can currently gather around 20-25 people and are looking to expand on that by having people use their networks to get us more exposure and support (several of the people who attended our demonstrations have their own specific activist networks). We aim to follow the international action dates with actions of our own.

Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Scotland

Scots Defend Assange held the first Scotland Must Resist speaking event on the 25th January 2020 to encourage activism in Scotland. The first protest was held on the first day of the extradition hearing and people came from across Scotland to stand outside the Scottish Parliament. Thanks to the protest we now have a small group of activists eager to get into more actions. We can now cover three territories in Scotland: Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

1. Invite your friends and family to start a group.

2. If you don’t know any interested people in your area, join other relevant online groups, actions or protests in your area (for example: anti war protests, pro peace FB groups, Extinction Rebellion, freedom of speech/press conferences…) to connect with like-minded individuals who might be interested in starting a new FreeAssange support group with you!

3. Collect your contacts and create a group chat. To protect your privacy, we recommend using safer messaging apps, such as Signal or Telegram.

4. Communicate with your group to determine what actions would you like to execute, group roles, resources, plan meetings, logistics, share ideas…

5. Create online presence on social media platforms (FB, Twitter, Instagram)

6. List your new group with a short group description and links to its social media accounts on challengepower.info or email supporters@dontextraditeassange.com and we will list it for you.

1. Call or email your local municipality or police station to find out about rules and regulations for organizing a protest in your area.

2. Generally speaking, you should not need to formally ask any special permissions if your protest:

- will take place in a public square

- will not block traffic

- you will not be using a big sound system (1 speaker is normally allowed)

3. Communicate with your local group to determine Location, Date and Time of your protest.

Send email to supporters@dontextraditeassange.com to let us know LDT of your protest and your FB profile if you wish to be able to edit the FB event page we will create for you. You can also create your own FB event page and send us a link. In that case, please make sure the event looks legit with plenty of info if you wish for us to help you promote it.

4. Determine:

a) What will be your activities (think in terms of inviting people to come closer and inform themselves about JA and Wikileaks)

b) Who will be the moderator

c) Who will be the guest speakers and performers (celebrities, professors, human rights organizations representatives, members of parliament…)

d) Who will invite the media (journalists, reporters, bloggers, photographers…)

e) Who will make signs, flyers, posters. You can find free pdf designs at http://somersetbean.com/free-assange/

f) Who will take care of the music and the vibe

g) Is it a one-off protest or a recurring event

5. Update your event page once speakers and performers confirm their participation.

6. Contact WikiLeaks official shop to discuss possible group discounts for bulk orders: https://wikileaks.shop/

6. After the protest, please gather all photos, videos and local news articles on your group's pages.
